What is IFSC and MICR code?

IFSC is short for Indian Financial System Code and it represents the 11 digit character. The code is written in an alphanumeric format where first four characters represent bank, fifth character is default "0" left for future use and last six characters represent branch. IFSC identifies the branches in the National Electronic Funds Transfer Network like National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT), Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), Immediate Payment Service, an interbank electronic instant mobile money transfer service (IMPS), and Centralised Funds Management System (CFMS). RBI uses IFSC code for electronic money transfer between banks.
